Where the heck is SUDAN?

Just this afternoon I received a text message from an agency scheduling me for interview with a possible employer abroad. Do you know which country I'd be assigned to if ever? In SUDAN!!!

After reading the message, my first reaction was, "Where the heck is SUDAN?!?!" I've always thought I'm such an expect in Geography as this was my most favorite subject in highschool (Ask me the capital of any country! Naks yabang! Hehehe.) I was actually 60% sure it's in Africa, but 40% was telling me it's one of those African-sounding countries which is actually situated in Asia, like Nepal or Maldives.

Come to think of it, I'd love the idea of working in Africa. I don't really care about the climate. I'd prefer bein' based in a high-temp country. Lamigin ako eh! Also, just imagine the adventure I'd be having if ever! And the sceneries! The animals! The people! I'd take lots of pictures! For a change, I'd like to have some excitement and thrill in my life. Woo hoo! = D

So I tried googling it, and here's what I got:

"Sudan (officially the Republic of The Sudan) (Arabic: السودان ‎as-Sūdān) is the largest country in Africa and tenth largest country in the world by area. It is bordered by Egypt to the north, the Red Sea to the northeast, Eritrea and Ethiopia to the east, Kenya and Uganda to the southeast, Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic to the southwest, Chad to the west and Libya to the northwest."

"Sudan has had a troubled relationship with many of its neighbors and much of the international community due to what is viewed as its aggressively Islamic stance."

"U.S. firms have been barred from doing business in Sudan since 1997. The United States has listed Sudan as a state sponsor of terrorism since 1993."

"Despite new economic policies and infrastructure investments, Sudan still faces formidable economic problems as it must rise from a very low level of per capita output."

Aggressively Islamic? Terrorism? Economic problems?

NO THANKS. = P

  2. south of Egypt. :)

I dunno, Africa just scares me, with AIDS and all. Just a thought, what is the probability that a mosquito bite would cause transmittal of the virus on you?
